Description
There is unprecedented interest in auditory processing disorders (APD) among audiologists, speech pathologists, and parents of children who are academic underachievers. Differential diagnosis of APD is challenging for many audiologists. Assessment procedures and protocols extend far beyond the audiogram, and treatment strategies are highly varied and must be closely coordinated with other professionals. Furthermore, APD must be differentiated from among a variety of co-existing disorders such as dyslexia, language impairment, and ADHD. This exciting new workshop provides the clinical audiologist or speech pathologist with a practical and logical approach for assessment and management of this substantial and clinically under-served population. The University of Florida Joint Audiology Program and the Multidisciplinary Diagnostic and Treatment Program (MDTP) use these assessment and management approaches. The APD workshop provides the clinician with practical take-home messages, hands-on experiences, and extensive handout materials in an informal and friendly learning environment.
